CAA Flyer ID Number Requirement Update – 2025 Onwards
CAA Flyer ID Number Requirement Update – 2025 Onwards
Dear PANDAS Members,
To fly lawfully all members require a CAA Flyer ID number from 1/1/2025 onwards. There are a few exceptions such as for control line aircraft.
I am collecting and trying to check the details as members renew for 2025.
A few members have been issued with a Flyer ID Number based on holding an achievement scheme test that they passed prior to 31/12/2020. The CAA will no longer accept this method.
If you were expecting a CAA Flyer ID based on passing a BMFA achievement test prior to 31/12/2020 and have not received it yet, it will not happen now. You will have to take and pass one of the online tests (CAA DMARES or BMFA RCC).
If you have already been issued with a CAA Flyer ID number solely based on you passing a BMFA achievement test prior to 31/12/2020, you can use the number for now, but these numbers will be revoked on 30/11/2025 unless you take and pass one of the online tests. You should receive an email from the BMFA shortly explaining the reason why and what you have to do.
If you have not got a Flyer ID number already you will have to take and pass ONE OF THE ONLINE TESTS.
As below as a BMFA member under the terms of the latest BMFA / CAA Article 16 Authorisation, you can obtain a CAA Flyer ID number in 2 ways by completing one of the online tests:
- Completing the CAA online test (DMARES) direct with the CAA. The CAA will then email you the number.
https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual/register-and-take-test-to-fly - Completing the BMFA online test (RCC).

Notes.
For point 2 you have to agree for the BMFA to share your data with the CAA. There is a box in your profile on the BMFA membership portal for you to tick (picture below). The BMFA will then forward the details to the CAA and the CAA will email you the number.
Any member who already has an RCC, has ticked the box to share their data and has not yet received a CAA Flyer ID number, if you let me know and I will chase it up with the BMFA.
If you do not agree to share your data you will have to obtain a flyer ID as at point 1 directly with the CAA.
The 2 online tests consist of 40 questions and you have to get 30 right to pass. The questions are similar but the BMFA RCC questions are more relevant to the BMFA / CAA Article 16 Autorisation. These tests are free and last for 5 years from the date you pass them.
Checking Details with the CAA
You can check your details on the CAA website (link below) including the status of your Operator number and Flyer ID number. You need the email address you are registered with and your date of birth. You input those details and then a code is emailed back to your email address. You input the code and you can then access the site.

If you just want to check an Operator number or Flyer ID number, you can use the link below. You have to know the number and exact name of the person. If they have used initials or middle names it has to match exactly or it will show as no record.

If anyone does not understand what is required or know what to do please give me a call or email me.
