PANDAS August / September 2026 Club Updates
PANDAS August / September 2026 Club Updates
Dear PANDAS Members,
After a recent PANDAS committee meeting, below are a few updates and some concerns that were raised.
Membership
We have 191 members so far for 2026 with a few people who have indicated they might join us shortly. We should end the year with around 200 members.
BMFA RCC
The committee will be looking to make it a mandatory requirement, that every PANDAS member holds a BMFA Registered Competency Certificate (RCC) for the start of 2027, if they want to renew their membership.
Noise
A number of members have expressed concern about noise, especially from the larger petrol powered aircraft and potential impact that could have on securing our field in the future. Good fields are hard to find and very easy to lose.
Housing developments are only likely to expand. It is asked that members please think about the noise their aircraft are making, both in relation to style of flying, propellor selection and the actual silencing of the engine itself.
PANDAS is currently in a unique position that members can fly larger aircraft with very few restrictions. We also have a BMFA site permit that allows over 7.5Kgs aircraft to fly over 400 feet.
There are very few local clubs that allow flying of the larger aircraft or hold the BMFA permit. Most that do, have restrictions on membership numbers and will not take any new members.
Over 7.5Kgs Aircraft
You need a BMFA B certificate to fly any over 7.5Kgs aircraft or turbine powered aircraft. You must have an active spotter for the duration of the flight. The committee would consider any deliberate breach of this rule as a serious infringement, most likely leading to the members termination of their club membership.
Spotter Role
The spotter provides active support by acting as a second pair of eyes throughout the flight. Their role is not just to watch the flight, but to monitor the flying area for potential hazards, including people on or near the area, and to pay particular attention during take-off and landing to help maintain safe conditions.
Club Meetings
We are going to continue with monthly club meetings. However we are looking for someone to take on the role of facilitating the meetings, arranging guest speakers and various presentations / theme nights.
Finances
Our financial year ends on 30/9/2026. Hopefully we should just about break even for this financial year.
Committee Positions 2027
The AGM is fast approaching (3/11/2026). Most of the current committee have indicated they would be prepared to stand for another year. We need active committee members who are regular attenders at the field and have the time / energy to help run and organise things for the club. If that is you, please let us know and look to join the committee for 2027.
